Description
Ethel, Lois and Harold are standing in the drive leading to the house on Glenclare Farm.

Michael L. Bigger is shown on the 1859 Tremaine Map of Halton County as owning the property, Lot 15, Concession 2 NDS Trafalgar Township, running north from Burnhamthorpe Road on the east side of 6th Line. The property name was also sometimes spelled "Glenclaire Farm".

Albert, son of Michael and Belinda, and his wife, Hettie, built the lovely house shown in this record, on the property in 1898.

The farm was renowned for its prize animals and generations of the Bigger family was active in local agricultural societies.

Lois grew up to be a teacher at Munn's School. She graduated from Teacher's College at age 17, and taught 30 children in all grades. She started the day by firing up the wood stove to heat the one-room schoolhouse and to cook oatmeal for the children's breakfast. She was paid $500 per year.

Wilbert bought an adjacent 300 acre farm for his son, Harold. The house on this property stands on the north side of Burnhamthorpe, just west of Trafalgar Road. As of 2016 his son, Norman Biggar, still owns some of this farmland. Before his retirement, Norman farmed 2500 acres in the area.
