Stars represent key milestones in the history of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital continued from p.9 Oakville Hospital Foundation CEO Tina Triano, adding she's excited to see the tradition continue on at the new hospital with an added twist. Babies who were born at the old OTMH have their name and birth date engraved on gold stars to signify they were born at the legacy location while babies born at the new hospital will have their names etched onto a silver star. In attendance, to add his gold star back onto the baby wall was Brian Carter, the first baby born at the legacy location when it opened in 1950. Carter, who now lives in Peterborough with his wife and three children, said he's proud to be part of Oakville's spirit and history. Having grown up just down the street from the Reynolds Street location, he said the hospital has a special place in his family's heart. Carter, whose brother and sister still live in Oakville, added he attended the program launch in March 2004 with his mother just a few months before her passing, an event that has forever been engrained in his memory. He said it's overwhelming to see the wall in its new location. After showing Elise where her gold star shines on the wall, her parents, Roslen Batistil and Lamberto Cabanez, told the Oakville Beaver they're thrilled to have a special place that recognizes their daughter's birth -- an event that came as a surprise because she was scheduled to arrive on Dec. 17, 2015 by caesarean section. "It's wonderful, it's our first baby," said Cabanez, noting how special the day was and commending OTMH staff for the wonderful care they received. Batoul's parents Nermeen Mostafa and Tarek Khalil echoed the Cabanez family's remarks, noting the experience of having their baby girl born in the new hospital was like being at "home." "They take care of you; they take care of your family," said Khalil, while his wife added it was nice to have Batoul delivered by Dr. Robert Morrow, chief of obstetrics at OTMH, who delivered their first child Janna, now almost five years old. The Khalils said it was an exciting time for their growing family even though life has gotten more challenging. "It's a lot of hard work, but you always enjoy it because it's once in a lifetime," said Khalil. Halton Healthcare President and CEO Denise Hardenne said Carter's birth, as well as Elise and Batoul's have a special place in the hospital's history. "While all births are miraculous, we have had some key births that we have the distinct opportunity of celebrating, each one representing a key milestone in the history of OTMH," she said. Noting how there's been renewed interest in the program, she added the wall continues to grow each day.
