W hen the gun sounded to start S u n d ay s 20th annual W ineglass Marathon Race, which runs in New York State from Bath to Coming, the Running Company knew the store had a fast entry in the three-member mixed relay division. But, according to store manager Greg McKinnon, "we had no idea the team would do this well." Although the trio settled for second, over all, it recorded the fastest time ever by a Canadian team at the event, at 3:06.32. There were nearly 100 trios entered in the relay. The trio all live in Oakville -- lead runner Carol Dinic, Will Simmons and anchor Jon Pipitone. In addition, Pipitone recorded the fastest anchor time of all teams at this year's race (although official results had not been posted as of our press deadlines). "These people burned the course," said veteran Oakville runner and run ning coach Brian Bidwell. The individual marathon race had more than 600 finishers. The top Oakville runner was Paul Rooks who finished 36th over all in a time of 3:01.43. Emma Keeshig, a member o f one of the Running Company's other relay teams explained that "Coming is a pop ular race for Oakville area runners. "We're known for our spirit and our passion for running. "Our camaraderie is always evident as is our pride in calling Oakville home. "This year, we handed out hundreds o f tattoo impresions of the Canadian flag. They were a big hit." Complete results are posted at the Running Company, 118 Thomas Street. fe ' iA / i Hill's Best Kept Friday deadline for player award nominations Recognizing the achieve ments o f local athletes is the premise behind the annual athlete recognition awards night, hosted by the Oakville Parks . and Recreation D epartm ent.
