I Reward or punishment depends on where you live on a Canadian passport to Uzbekistan to visit his wife's parents, was handed over to the Chinese government and sentenced to life in prison -- for many years he was in solitary confinement. Huseyin Celil China refuses to recognize his Canadian citizenship and has forbidden Canadian officials from seeing him. There is a new development in Mr. Celil's sentence. His punishment has been reduced to 20 years in prison instead of the life sentence. Although this is considered progress by some, the 20 years starts from now -- his previous 10 years in prison doesn't count. Ten years is more than enough punishment for speaking out. Mr. Celil is a Uyghur -- a Muslim minority discriminated against in China. He was an Iman in his mosque and used a megaphone to broadcast calls to prayer. This was not looked upon favourably by the Chinese authorities. He was imprisoned. After serving considerable time in prison, where he said he was beaten and tortured, Mr. Celil fled from China. He subsequently was declared a refugee and was able to settle in Canada, where he became a Canadian citizen.
