Sporting a close-cropped haircut, full beard and long winter coat, Alexandre Lemelin agreed with a court order for him to attend a future court date of March 22 before leaving the courtroom in the company of a middleaged woman. Lemelin is charged in connection with a series of fires, which rocked the north Oakville community in September and October last fall. He was charged with three counts of arson following his arrest in November. Those charges were laid in relation to a fire at a playground at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre (Oct. 18); a fire that destroyed a storage barn near St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre (Oct. 27); and a fire in Lions Valley Park during the same period. On Tuesday Feb. 9 of this year, Halton police laid two additional arson charges against Lemelin in connection with a Sept. 27, 2015 blaze, which destroyed an abandoned heritage home at 1470 Bronte Rd., and an Oct. 10, 2015 fire that reduced a large shed in the same vicinity to ashes. l r.
