Oakville resident Eddie Williams, 64, took to the streets for the 40th time this St. Patrick's Day to carry out a local tradition that dates back to 1922, by making the 42-kilometre trek from Toronto's City Hall to a bar in downtown Oakville. The tradition began when a group of prohibition-weary Irishmen walked from Toronto to Oakville in search of bootleg green beer. For the past few years, Williams has been accompanied by a number of supporters, including former Oakville, now Hamilton, resident Raychyl White, who is again participating this year. Today, Williams is expected to end his walk at Mo's Kitchen and Tavern, 234 Lakeshore Rd. E. After leaving Toronto City Hall at 9 a.m., he is expected to reach his destination at some point between 4-5 p.m. Pictured, Williams dropped by the Oakville Beaver office Tuesday. | photo by David Lea Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog or www.facebook.com/HaltonPhotog) Halton Waste Management Site will be closed Friday, March 25, 2016 Regular operating hours: Open Monday to Saturday · 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton The Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) will be open on Sundays from April 17 to July 10, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This pilot program will measure resident interest and assess the long-term feasibility of having the landfill site open on Sundays.
