www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, March 18, 2016 | 4 Fare Share hoping residents are LexusofoakviLLe.ca extra generous for Easter food drive Food bank expects more clients by John Bkila Oakville Beaver Staff Anticipating increased numbers of the clients that use its services this year, Fare Share food bank is hoping Oakville residents will be extra generous for its upcoming Easter drive. "We want to be prepared to help all new comers to Oakville in a welcoming way and without doing so with panic in our hearts," said Nancy Bromberg, Fare Share volunteer president. "We must know, in advance, that we can help everyone who comes to us. This is why your donations are particularly important this Easter season." The Easter food drive kicks off today (Friday) and runs through to Sunday, April 3. With Fare Share's next food drive not being held until Thanksgiving, more donations are particularly needed and are essential during this season for the food bank to ensure its shelves stay stocked for those in need, according to Ron Ziegel, food drive and volunteer co-ordinator. Donations can be made at Fare Share bins found at all local grocery stores and Oakville Fire stations, as well as directly at the 1240 Speers Rd. food bank. Fare Share serves approximately 350-400 families per month out of its 1240 Speers Rd., Unit 6, location. For a list of most needed items, visit www. oakvillefoodbank.com/needed-items. "We are in very short supply of diapers (size 6), salmon, oval tins of ham and honey," said Bromberg. Fare Share is a registered charity and can issue tax receipts for donations on the spot. The food bank is open to its clients on Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Thursdays, 3-7 p.m. All clients are initially interviewed to ensure they qualify and then regularly reviewed to determine if their circumstances have changed. Volunteers still needed Volunteers, particularly students, for the Easter food drive are still needed. Local high school students wishing to earn their required community service hours can call 905-845-8014 during the week after 7:30 p.m. or on the weekend.
