"We played the system ," said new B lades' coach Jay Anderson, commenting on his team 's new strategy. "We hit them with defensive zone coverage." Through the first two periods, Milton found it hard to get to the B lades' net for an opportunity to score. Oakville played a tight checking game, and capitalized on their own chances. Anderson is keen on showing the league a new Blades' squad. "If the players play the system, the league will find out we aren't a seventh place team." Coach Anderson was also unsure o f what could happen in this game, considering the 10-1 pasting the Blades took in Milton before Christmas. "I didn't know what to expect." Anderson was pleased with the play of goalie M att Collaton who made key saves when they were needed. Blades' forward Stu M acCrimmon start ed things off with a power-play goal in the latter stages of the first period. M ilton tied it up, but M acCrimmon added his second goal o f the game on a sweet move in fjont of the M erchants' net, giving the Blades a 21 lead. M att Collaton made a great glove save off a shot by a wide open M erchant, John Nadalin, as he skated in on a breakaway. Mike Tarantino scored on a B lades' two on one rush, giving the Blades a 3-1 lead. Collaton made another spectacular save, sprawling across the net, stopping an open M erchant forward. Tarantino scored his sec ond goal of the game, to make it 4-1, when he grabbed a loose puck at the blue line, skated in and slid the puck through M erchants' goalie Joel Cameron. The Blades took their three goal lead into the third period, when they made it 5-1 on a shot from the point from Peter Lang. Joel Cameron was pulled after the goal, and back-up goalie Anthony M arshall took over between the pipes. M ilton began their com eback, scoring three straight goals, narrowing the lead to 54. O akville regained a two goal lead, at 6-4, when M ike Lukajic received a pass from Tarantino and one-tim ed it into the net. With close to 3:30 left in the third period, Blades' captain M ike G ardner took a smart tripping penalty when a M ilton forw ard had a potential breakaway. M ilton pulled their goalie for an extra attacker at the time o f the penalty, and it w orked as they scored with under 90 sec onds rem aining to make it 6-5. M ike Tarantino com pleted his hat-trick by putting the puck into the em pty M ilton net for a shortlived 7-5 lead. M ilton fought to the end, closing the gap to the final 7-6 verdict, with 25 seconds rem aining. O akville had goals from Tarantino (3), M acC rim m on (2), L ang, and L ukajic.
