Reflecting on the club's 60 year-history, she told the Oakville Beaver the group has changed in many ways, but its principles remain the same. "We still hold true to our founder Lady (Isabel) Aberdeen's ideals of helping the most vulnerable of the population -- women, children, seniors, people struggling with mental physical challenges," she described. May Court Club in Canada was founded in 1898 on the eve of May Day in Ottawa by Lady Isabel Aberdeen, the wife of Canada's then Governor General. With strong ideas about the role of women in society, she set out putting those ideas into action by creating the May Court Club, the Council of Women and the Victorian Order of Nurses. More than a century later, there are more than 1,500 volunteer women in nine Ontario cities driven by the same spirit and passion for making a difference in the community they serve. The Oakville group, comprised of more than 240 members, has financially supported 29 community agencies over the years see All on p.37 Will Work for you Full-time Protects Established Neighbourhoods "I have known Ray for years.
