The North Bay native, who has competed for OAK since 2013, finished second in a highly-competitive women's 100-metre backstroke in which the top three swimmers all met the Olympic standard of 1:00.25. Kylie Masse won the race, setting a Canadian record of 59.06 seconds, while Bouchard was second in 59.96. Hilary Caldwell was third in 1:00.21, but only the top two times met the standard to qualify for the Olympics. Mack Darragh won the men's 200-metre butterfly in a time of 1:58.22. That left him short of the Olympic qualifying time of 1:56.97. Darragh was one of three Oakville swimmers in the final. Zack Chetrat was third and Connor Wilkins was ninth. Four OAK swimmers made the finals in the women's 400m IM. In the A final, Tessa Cieplucha was fourth while Marni Oldershaw was eighth. Mabel Zavaros was second in the B final while Rosie Zavaros was 10th. Zavaros made the A final of the women's 400m freestyle, finishing ninth. OAK also had two swimmers qualify for the B final. Rosie Zavaros was eighth in the women's 100m backstroke and Mackenzie Hamill was seventh in the men's 200m freestyle. Thursday morning, Jacqueline Keire qualified for the women's 200m freestyle final. She finished third in the preliminaries with a time of 1:59.24, just off the Olympic qualifying time of 1:58.96. Cieplucha qualified for the B final. Hamill qualified for the final in the men's 400m freestyle and Tera Van Beilen was third in preliminaries to qualify for the women's 100m breaststroke final. The finals were held Thursday evening after press time. The Olympic trials, being held at the Toronto Pam Am Sports Centre, continue until Sunday. Samuel Armstrong (left) of host E.S.C. Shawn Barrow finished first in the senior boys division with a five-game average of 250.2. He bowled 239, 313, 246, 241, 212 for a total of 1,251. The win qualifies Barrow to represent southern Ontario at the Youth Bowl Canada national championships in Calgary May 6-9. Sarah Styles finished second in the junior girls division with an average of 207.2 over five games, bowling 215, 144, 178, 199, 300 for 1,036. Both bowlers qualified for provincials when they won a zone competition in Georgetown. Hopedale Bowl runs a youth program for bowlers ages 4-19. It currently has 36 youth bowlers who play each week, either Tuesday evenings or Saturday mornings. Sports Briefs to score in a shootout, helping Canada beat Uruguay at the Junior Women's Pan American Championships Tuesday. The Canadians outscored Uruguay 5-3 in the shootout after the two teams failed to score in regulation time of the quarterfinal contest. Canada advanced against Argentina in yesterday's semifinals, with the winner playing either the United States or Chile in the final of the tournament, which is being held in Trinidad and Tobago. Burlington's Adrienne Houle, a forward, is also on the Canadian team. Canada qualified for the quarter-finals by winning two of three pool games, shutting out Mexico 4-0, losing 5-1 to the United States and blanking Trinidad and Tobago 4-0. ian Goalkeeper Academy, is offering the course. Ontario Ball Hockey Federation receives $1,000 grant The Ontario Ball Hockey Federation, located in Oakville, was one of 10 recipients of a grant from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS). The OBHF , supported by Hockey Canada, will receive a $1,000 Women in Sport Encouragement (WISE) grant. It's provided for groups that support women leaders' development as well as organizations currently offering or creating diverse opportunities and programming for women.
