A nd that hom e gallery serves as inspiration for the stu dents that the seasoned O akville artist teaches in her new w atercolor art classes. S tam m 'ler first began giving art classes after years o f people suggesting that she do so. "I never was really interested in teaching," she explains. "B ut I had painted for 15 years every day for six hours and I needed som e thing new in my life." So, on their daily w alks, she and her husband put flyers in n eighbour's m ailboxes, explaining S tam m T er's back ground as an artist and the classes she w as offering. H er classes are lim ited to six w ould-be artists and, "are really hands on." T hey are geared to beginners but she also teaches advanced students and declares that partici pants do not have to know how to draw. "I w atch them every step and if I think they are going the w rong w ay I say, `S to p '. I tell them how to do it and show them on a separate piece o f paper," she explains. Students are free to choose their ow n subjects to paint. But those who w ant som ething to w ork from can select a photo from one o f the shoe boxes on her shelf - the flow er box or the landscape box or the houses and churches box. "E verybody does it in a different way," she explains w hile holding up a picture o f a rocky shore. "Two or three o f my students have painted this, and they are all differ ent." S tam m 'ler also offers ch ild ren 's w atercolor classes (ages 7 and up) on W ednesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. "They are very good draw ers, these children," she says. "The m ain thing is they enjoy it."
