The Beaver was judged based on submission of two editions requested, from January and July 2015. The Beaver competed in the circulation class of 45,000 and over. The category was judged by Jeff Holubitsky, editor of the St. Albert Gazette; Robert Mangelsdorf, managing editor of the Westender in Vancouver, B.C.; and, Anthony Bonaparte, associate editor of the Suburban in Montreal, Qué. The judges' comments stated, "With compelling local stories and a clean, uncluttered layout throughout, the Oakville Beaver was a pleasure to read. "The Beaver's sports and arts coverage helped set it apart from the competition, as did the paper's design; photos were given room to breathe, while clearly labelled section heads made for easy navigation of the paper. It's clear the Beaver does an excellent job of keeping the entries provide great value to the communities they serve." Joining the Beaver in the OCNA Awards Gala Friday was its sister paper, The Flamborough Review, which also picked up a third place win in the general excellence category for its circulation class. Oakville Beaver photographer Graham Paine's most creative `gripand-grin' photo submission also took home a third win. The Beaver placed behind Peterborough This Week and Brant News.
