Working alongside a quali ed six-man crew from Lands and Forests Consulting Ltd., CH's ecological restoration staff targeted a 3.2-hectare area, where invasive, non-native species threatened the long-term ecological restoration of the oak woodland and grassland areas. A prescribed burn -- or controlled burn -- is a deliberately set, carefully planned and controlled, low severity re, which consumes ground level ne fuels such as dried leaves, needles, and small twigs, but does not harm larger trees, according to CH. "The practice is a widely-used and recognized scienti c method of controlling outcompeting and non- re tolerant invasive species, while allowing for growth and encouraged regeneration of the naturally occurring trees like oak and hickory, grasslands, and planted seedlings," stated a CH release. "After the burn, wild ower blooms will be abundant in the summer, as well as bird and pollinator populations who will use the new habitat," it stated.
