John Bkila Editor jbkila@oakvillebeaver.com HSH has plenty of entertainment planned for Share the Hope Walk For singer/songwriter Julie Neff, performing at Home Suite Hope's Share the Hope Walk in Oakville Sunday (May 1) was an easy decision. "I completely fell in love with the mission of the organization," said Neff. "Helping single parents turn around the course of their lives through education and housing support is an incredible mission. They are really out to transform lives and not put a Band-Aid on the situation." The third annual Share the Hope Walk takes place at Coronation Park and benefits Home Suite Hope (HSH), a charity that provides longterm, transitional housing and access to various social services for single-parent families in Halton facing homelessness. Neff and her band will play a variety of musical styles, including a mixture of both originals and covers. Her Toronto-based band's influences include Feist, Florence and the Machine, Daughter, Ben Howard, and Nina Simone. "Music is a huge passion for me and that seemed like the best way for me to support Home Suite Hope initiatives," Neff said. Participants of the walk will also be entertained by the comedic stylings of MC Eric Johnston, who may be popularly known as Vane on YTV's Splatalot! television series. Johnston will warm up the crowd, interview speakers and present awards after the walk. "I'm happy to be there, I can't wait," he said. "It's great to see a community come together for such a great cause. There's a lot of wealth and prosperity in Oakville, so it's important to have people see the other side that they may not realize is there. "If you can give someone a home, you can give them everything else," he continued. "To have a home versus a house, it's so important for the development of kids, families, relationships, and starting over and having that stability." Johnston, who grew up in Hamilton, performs across southern Ontario as a professional MC and comedian, and aims to appeal to both children and adults. "This is one of those great events that engages kids," he said. "If you respect kids the same way as adults, and get them involved in charities, they feel like they've made a difference as well. They carry that attitude forward the rest of their lives. It's so important."
