He said preparing for the prescribed burn entailed consulting with others, such as staff from the Town of Oakville's Parks and Open Space department, that has been conducting burns at Iroquois Shoreline Woods over the last several years. Finney said he got sound advice on lessons learned and has also participated in prescribed burns conducted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Finney added CH also executed a communication plan that included notifying 36 key agencies and stakeholders about the prescribed burn. Approximately 1,000 postcards were also distributed informing residents living in the surrounding area about the plans. He noted the success of the Glenorchy prescribed burn has laid groundwork for future burns in the area to help continue restoration efforts. "It will be a less complex burn and it will provide a safer and easier landscape to burn throughout," he said.
