The contest is meant to help promote awareness of the value of introducing classical music to young children and open to students in Junior Kindergarten-Grade 6. Participants are asked to draw an original, non-computerized, picture on an 8.5-by-11-inch piece of paper of an orchestral instrument(s) or of someone playing an instrument -- the picture will not be returned after submission. After filling out a form and having it signed by a parent or guardian, participants are asked to tape the form to the back of the picture and mail it to Oakville Symphony, 310-200 North Service Rd. W., Oakville, ON, L6M 2Y1. Submissions must be received by Tuesday (May 24). The first prize winner of the competition receives a $250 gift certificate from Long & McQuade, while six second prize winners will be awarded age-appropriate classical music CDs -- two for each category: JK/SK, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-6. Winners also receive two tickets to attend a 2016-17 Young People's Concert with an adult. Winners will be notified individually by June 30 and announced at a Young's People Concert this season (actual date is still to be determined).
