www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 19, 2016 | 8 Oakville-based Caravan delivers to Fort McMurray by Michael Zelek special to the Beaver In this great time of crisis and need, when fellow Canadians needed help the most, Oakvillebased Caravan Group of Companies was happy to help the town and people of Fort McMurray. "On behalf of North Star Ford, the people of Fort McMurray and our first responders, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for providing us with the needed transportation to send multiple 53-footers of needed supplies. We could not have helped them the way we did without all of you," said Cherie Haynes, executive safety co-ordinator, who has been organizing relief efforts. As wild fires continue to devastate the northern Alberta community, Caravan has been working hard to help in whatever ways possible. In the case of Caravan, providing its service as a trucking company was a natural way to assist. Caravan has sent multiple trucks full of supplies more than 4,000 kilometres free-ofcharge to try to alleviate some of the stress that the town of Fort Mac is going through. In addition to providing available trucks, trailers and drivers to move this freight, Caravan is also making financial donations. Corrine Hanes who has been a driver for Caravan for four years has been on many long trips out West. It was her idea to start a donation jar for for things like the Santa Claus Parade here in Oakville. "We take great pride in being a well-run business, but we take greater pride in the people that we have working here and the lengths that they are willing to go in times of need" said Senior Operations Manager Zoriana Workun. "The human element, the fact that we support people in need locally, nationally and internationally is what makes this company special. Yes, we are a transportation company, and a good one at that; but more importantly, we are a company that gives back." Caravan Group of Companies was founded in 1997 and is located in Oakville. This great idea got the ball rolling and when management heard about it, they were eager to match all donations. Combined with the Canadian government's promise to match Red Cross donations, every dollar someone at Caravan donates turns into $4 for the relief effort. "We know that you did not do anything for us for any other reason than to help... we want our communities to know we didn't do this alone," said Haynes. Helping out is nothing new to Caravan. Every year the office has a food drive for those in need; in 2014 Caravan raised almost $10,000 for cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital and numerous times throughout the year, its employees have donated time and equipment Bhandari Family Dentistry returns to Oakville Bring in yOur Family FOr a CheCk-uP at Our new mODern CliniC Dr. Bhandari is an advocate of oral health with 31 years of experience.
