Police and the Oakville Fire Department were called to the park around 3 p.m. The hikers had been making their way up a large slope, but had slipped and become stuck after heavy rains washed out the path. "The two hikers were on a slippery slope about 30 feet down on a washed out trail... The hikers were afraid to move because the path had become so slippery," said Oakville Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn. "Fire ghters assisted them using a ropehaul system to pull them to the top of the slope." No one was injured. Glynn said the rope rescue took around 45 minutes. The Oakville Fire Department is reminding residents to be aware of the weather when hiking in ravine areas as heavy rains can make the trails slippery and more difcult to traverse. The Oakville Fire Department hosted its inaugural Fire ghter Combat Challenge at its South Service Road training facility Friday (June 3). The invitational challenge, a kick-off to The Fire t Challenge, encourages re ghter tness and demonstrates the profession's rigors to the public. The full bunker combat challenge pitted close to 60 re ghters from a dozen teams from as far away as Illinois. The day-long event raised more than $700, which is being donated to the United Way of Fort McMurray.
