www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, June 10, 2016 | 4 Man killed in Toronto owned a home in Oakville continued from p.1 He was out on bail when he was repeatedly shot in his white Range Rover just before 3 p.m. on Cowbell Lane, an alleyway behind the Minto Towers, just south of Toronto's Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue East intersection. Although Toronto police have not released the deceased man's name, he has been identified as a courtside basketball fan, who was ejected from a Toronto Raptors playoff game last month. Sohan Deo also identified the dead man as his nephew Sukhvir Deo to the Toronto Star early Wednesday (June 8) morning. "It's a very bad news. It's very bad for the family," said Sohan Deo, who said another of his nephews told him that Sukhvir Deo, 34, was the man killed in Toronto Tuesday. Sohan Deo said his nephew had moved to Toronto from Vancouver about five years ago and was running a trucking company here. Just weeks before his death, Sukhvir Deo had an unlikely moment in the spotlight. He was the man who was ejected for heckling at the Raptors' May 23 playoff game in Toronto against the Cleveland Cavaliers, said Gurpreet Sahota, editor of the Punjabi weekly newspapers Akal Guardian and Charhdi Kala in Surrey, B.C. Some members of Sukhvir's family appear to have gangland connections, while Sukhvir himself has had convictions for assault, resisting a police officer and driving while suspended, all in B.C.'s Lower Mainland between 2004 and 2012. In May 2005, Sukhvir's younger brother Harjit Deo and two other men used his parents' garage as a hideout after kidnapping a man they believed was to blame for a missing shipment of marijuana, a B.C. Supreme Court judge stated. Sukhvir Deo was gunned down in Toronto Tuesday. His killers, two male suspects, remain at-large. According to Toronto media reports, Deo owned a home in Oakville. | photo by Steve Russel - Toronto Star inside today's Editorial Artscene Beaver www.insideHALTON.com Holland Park Garden Real Estate Oakville Learning Centre New Homes Market Place TG Appliances 6 26 Sports Classified 29 31 *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online @ www.oakvillebeaver.com "During his confinement, (the victim) was variously bound, blindfolded, beaten, held at gunpoint and threatened," wrote Justice Arne Silverman in 2007. Sukhvir's father Parminder Deo, in his early 60s, is wanted by authorities in India on an Interpol warrant for drug smuggling. Sukhvir's uncle confirmed his nephew's family connection to Harjit and Parminder. Tuesday's shooting came as a "big surprise" to officers at the scene. "This is a very quiet neighbourhood, and not indicative of crime," said Supt. Reuben Stroble of 53 Division. "We are doing everything in our power ... increasing patrols, increasing visibility in the area." No suspects have been arrested. Two men were seen fleeing the scene in a black car. One was wearing an orange construction vest, the other a green vest. -- with files from Julia Le, Vjosa Isai and Toronto Star staff Authentic Montessori at its Best - For Ages 18 mo.-12 yrs. · An empowering curriculum that engages children · Individual focus to learning your child's · Community atmosphere that makes students feel included and valued · Creative expression allows your child to explore their own interests and talents "Each space reflects the professionalism, pride and dedication of everyone in the school." -CCMA Accreditation Team FAIRVIEW GLEN 905.634.0781 · fairviewglen.com MONTESSORI SCHOOL
