Farano, whose father-in-law had also died from the devastating disease eight years ago, is now chair of this year's Oakville Relay for Life, which takes place tomorrow (Friday). The married, father-of-two says with so many events vying for people's support these days, it's important to realize how signi cant it is to participate in Relay for Life. "For those who don't really know the Canadian Cancer Society, it's about understanding that research is important if we're going to eradicate cancer; research is the only way we're going to do that," Farano said. "CCS events like this one (Relay) help support grants that support research and advocacy and awareness." This year marks the 15th Oakville Relay for Life. The signature CCS event sees teams and individuals take turns walking laps on a track into the night while raising funds for cancer research. see Relay on p.3 Cpl.
