"Our judges witnessed some amazing variety and talent this year," stated a media release. "Thank you to all applicants to this year's competition." The competition honours excellence among emerging musicians in the community. Entrants can compete in two categories: Junior (for those aged 17 years or younger) and Senior (instrumentalists aged 21 years or younger; and vocalists aged 25 years or younger). The competition takes place between April and June, with applications being accepted until April 1. Ashworth, violin; and Linda Ruan, piano; Junior Category · First place -- Eric Guo, piano; · Second place -- Feiran Bi, flute; · Third place -- Matisse and Aled Blundell, trumpets. The Best from Oakville category went to Ashworth. First place winners in each category receive a $500 scholarship donated by The Optimist Club of Oakville and will perform at the OCO's Concerto Competition Grand Prize Winners concerts on April 29-30, 2017. Blakelock High School is putting on its Grade 12 art show, The HeART of TAB, next week with an opening night event at The Studio Theatre, Tuesday, June 21 from 6:30-8 p.m. The exhibit continues at the 1160 Rebecca St. school from June 22-23, open 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The show includes paintings, prints, sculptures, photography, live music and more.
