The four-year-old Great Pyrenees dog was timid, frightened and still getting oriented with her surroundings having come from a rural area. "Juno had never known what it was like to sleep with a roof over her head," said Lisa Ashby, OMHS fund development manager, explaining the dog had be a guard of livestock. Juno came to the OMHS Cornwall Road shelter when her owner died and his wife could no longer care for her, said Ashby. Even with the shelter at maximum capacity, staff got creative when it came time for the expectant mother to deliver, converting the OMHS laboratory into a makeshift maternity ward. On April 25, Juno gave birth to eight puppies -- two females and six males. The pups will make their public debut when they make a special appearance at the Willson Oakville Film Festival, which takes place June 24-26. They'll be arriving at Film.
