- Description
- This landscape photograph of the members of the Junior Boy Farmers was donated to the Trafalgar Township Historical Society by a farm family of several generations based in Palermo, Ontario. Unfortunately, we don't have any idenfication for the people in the photograph.
The young men and their mentors are standing in front of the Ontario Legislature building at Queen's Park, as they were "guests of the Ontario Department of Agriculture". They also visited the Royal Winter Fair.
The Junior Boys Farmers' clubs were intended to provide the lads with an opportunity to discuss farming and farm methods. Often the government Agricultural Representative for the county would provide short courses of instruction. Institutes were set up for girls as a result of World War I and the "war effort". These clubs continue today as the Junior Farmer's Association of Ontario who's members are aged 15 to 29. - Inscriptions
