Junior Ladies Satisfying campaign ends at Prescott toumey The Oakville Rangers triple A midget rep team put the wraps on a satisfying hockey season at the traditional season ending toumey in Prescott. After a couple of disappointing campaigns, the team turned things around with a second place finish in league play and several strong tournament outings, including the above mentioned Prescott toumey. Oakville made it all the way to the semifinals where they ran into Northern Ontario champion Timmins who had won their previous 30 games and who were using the toumey as a tune-up for the all-Ontario championships on the following weekend. Oakville lost, but it was close -- 1-0. Nick Ball was solid between the pipes for Oakville but his teammates just could n't solve his counterpart despite good pressure. The quarterfinal game was another close one with Oakville edging the Rochester Americans 2-1 in overtime. Oakville opened the scoring with defenceman Mike Zujko finding the net for the first of his two goals, both from the point, on a feed from captain Jeff Brown. Rochester came back at the end of the second, scoring on a powerplay and reg ulation time ended 1-1. Zujko bagged his second goal with just over a minute left in the first overtime period on a feed from goalie Dane Gilbert, who was strong in net. Oakville had a strong first game in the tournament by edg ing the Greater Kingston Frontenacs 2-1. Oakville came out fast and hit hard. Assistant captain Chris Riddell opened the scoring midway through the first on a nice feed from Geoff Curtis. Kingston came back to tie it in the middle of the third but with four minutes left on the clock, for ward Ryan Andrews fired in the winner off a rebound on a point shot from Ed Fiore. The team thanks coaches John East and Mike Arthur for turning the team around and putting together a successful sea son.
