Description
There was a school in Palermo as early as 1819. It was one of 3 public schools in Trafalgar Twp. The first school may have been on the same property as the ones built in 1844, 1875 & 1942 or it may have been across the road near the cemetery. (Original records for 2467 Old Bronte road also show a school was on that property. It is just south of the cemetery and Dundas Street.)

According to the Canadian Champion newspaper item linked here for your further information, the reunion was held on the school grounds. You can see the side of the 1875 school building in the background. (Thank you to Halinet for making the old newspapers available.)

S.S. #2 was built in 1844. A new school was built in 1875. The current building is the 1942-3 construction. It contains the date stone of the old. It served as a school in the village of Palermo for a couple of decades.

This is the programme from the 1935 celebration of the school. A special invitation was issued to former students and a panoramic photograph of attendees (or "Old Girls' and Boys') is linked to this record for your further information.
Notes
The village of Palermo was at the intersection of Dundas Street and Old Bronte Road. The Palermo community is referenced back in the 1841 census.

Palermo is one of the many Halton name connections to the life and times of Lord Horatio Nelson, British Admiral (1758-1805). Nelson was in Palermo, Italy after the Battle of the Nile.
