WOFF has charitable component with Oddball and Dis ek, Anna screenings continued from p.28 "... There's an expectation that there's going to be something really spectacular -- something not been seen, the director attached, that's why we do them," said Donnan. "It's really to get people juiced up about the festival. They meet the director and then they get really interested in every other aspect about the film festival. "And it works really well in the Oakville community," she continued. "People come out. We've proven... that the galas are successful. Last year, it was sold out and this year, the ticket sales are going very well too." Donnan calls the premiere events not just a gala, but also an experience for audiences -- giving them a "VIP" treatment. "But for me, it's as much about the actual films as it is about the gala experience," she said, noting she hopes to get ticket-holders feeling the same way. "A film like Manhattan Nocturne, I see as... basically, a modern twist on a classic film noir... it's so well-shot, it's dark, it's moody. I'm hoping people will gain an appreciation for the filmmaking style." Donnan explains it's just as important to her people develop an appreciation for the different styles of film-making, genres, acting and all the things that go into a film, from script-writing to screening. "It's all those things that are important to us as a festival," she said. New features There will also be a couple of new features to this year's WOFF , including a charitable component.
