The Willson Oakville Film Festival, which officially kicks tonight (Friday), runs to Sunday (June 26). The comedic A Legacy of Whining is written and directed by Ross Munro, who also stars in the film alongside Robert David Duncan. "(The film) throws gasoline on the familiar cinematic trope of the male mid-life crisis then gleefully throws a lighted match onto the proceedings," stated a media release. Inspired by early 1970s American buddy films, the "shaggy dog comedy" tells the story of two former high school friends, Mitch (played by Munro) and Dunc (Duncan). "(The pair) reunite after 30 years to resurrect the faded corpse of their `glory years' only to find during their desperation-soaked dreamlike evening together, that perhaps, the past ain't all it's cracked up to be," the release stated. Shot in Vancouver, the film also features Angie Descalzi, Keilani Elizabeth Rose and Emily Haine (of Fargo and Deadpool). It is produced by Ron Heaps, Munro and his wife Maria Munro. Munro, who studied in the three-year Film and TV Production program at Humber College, is now based out of Vancouver and specializes in creating characterdriven movies with an "extreme vision." His influences include: Stanley Kubrick, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Jim Jarmusch, Luis Bunuel, and PT Anderson.
