- James Cunningham was a member of Hornby Loyal Orange Lodge No. 165. He was also a member of the St. Clair Masonic Lodge No. 135, Milton.
The Cunningham family had farmed near the Esquesing Township border for many years, first arriving from Ireland in the early 1800s. Jimmy was born on the Sixth Line, Esquesing to Thomas P. and Lizzie Coulson Cunningham. He attended Hornby Public School and Milton High School. In 1927, he and Frances Myrtle Featherstone married at Bethel United Church.
He farmed on the 7th Line for several years and then worked at the Ontario School for the Deaf in Milton, and the Ontario Agricultural Museum. He grew vegetables for exhibition at local fairs and at the Royal Agricultural Fair in Toronto. In 1952, he was President of the Halton Liberal Association.
