Oakville led 10-7 in the third period, but Gloucester rallied to even their best-of-five Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse series at a game apiece. The Buzz opened a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes, but Gloucester pulled within one by the end of the period. The teams exchanged goals three times in the second period but the home side finally tied the game with six minutes left in the period. Oakville would restore its three-goal led with power-play goals by Adam Wolf and Foster Cuomo and another by Austin Redding made it 9-6. Four minutes into the third, Redding completed his hat trick to make it 10-7. The Buzz still led 10-8 with eight minutes remaining. Gloucester pulled within one with 7:06 left and then tied the game with 4:09 to play. It stayed that way until Cam Badour scored his fourth goal of the game with nine seconds left. Wolf had three goals and two assists and Redding also scored three times. Eddie Renaud had a goal and four assists while Matt Anderson, Cuomo and Patrick DeHueck also scored. Ryan Smith had three assists. Wolf and Smith each had four goals and two assists to lead the Oakville Buzz to a 12-5 win over the Gloucester Griffins in Saturday's series opener. Berg scored twice in the first period as Oakville jumped out to a 3-1 lead and the Rock extended its advantage to 7-2 in the second. Cobourg cut the lead to 7-5 but Oakville scored four straight in the third to go up 11-5. The Rock still had to weather a late storm when Cobourg scored three power-play goals in the final three minutes. Stephan Leblanc and Rob Hellyer each had a goal and three assists while Brandon Slade, Mitch Desnoo, Challen Rogers and Damon Edwards also scored. Nick Rose made 40 saves for the win. "We were having a scrimmage against the junior team and we didn't have a faceoff guy so Pat Merrill asked for volunteers. I did it and I stuck with it and it's worked out." Kim said there was a learning curve and he initially took his lumps at the X, but he studied videos on YouTube, gathered advice from other players and practised in his basement. His skills have earned him a scholarship at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. Kim said the large local contingent of players -- Burlington's Lanchbury and Kyle Hebert are on the team as well -- will help the team come together quickly in a tournament setting. He also believes it reflects the strong minor program in Oakville. Kolwich will take on a different role than the one fans of the Oakville Buzz are used to seeing him play for the Jr. B team. While Kolwich averaged just under a goal a game for the Buzz, he'll take on the task of preventing goals as a defender for Canada. Kolwich says having experience in both roles benefits him in field lacrosse. "On defence, I try to think of what I would do on offence," he said. "If I've got an idea of what they might do, I can take that away." Kolwich has committed to the University of North Carolina, which won the NCAA title this season. "It's exciting," he said. "It makes me want to get down there even sooner." In the meantime, being able to win a gold medal on home turf might be a nice way to pass the time.
