Man faces charges in alleged online credit card scam A 24-year-old Mississauga man is facing 54 fraud-related charges following an alleged online credit card scam, said to have targeted victims across the GTA, including in Oakville and Burlington. The Halton Regional Police Service Fraud Unit alleges orders were placed online with an electronics store using stolen credit card data. The shipped items would then be intercepted shortly after Canada Post delivered them to residences. In some instances, police allege an individual posed as a Canada Post employee so they could retrieve a package from a confused victim, who had no idea they had even placed the order that had just been delivered to their house. Working closely with investigators from Durham, York and Peel regional police services, as well as Canada Post, members of the Halton police fraud unit actively pursued the GTA investigation. They made an arrest after two recent victims took photos and video of a man, who had shown up at their front door to retrieve a package. Investigators have laid 54 charges in connection with 14 incidents, which took place in Oakville, Burlington, Whitby, Brampton, Acton, Oxford, Minden and elsewhere. Police allege approximately $40,000 in fraudulent purchases were made. The police investigation is continuing to determine whether other arrests are warranted. Petar Gyoshev, 24, of Mississauga faces charges, including numerous counts of fraud under $5,000, unauthorized use of credit data, theft of mail, and possession of a counterfeit mark. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Halton Regional Police Service Fraud Unit at 905-825-4747, ext. 8739 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 11 | Thursday, July 7, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com McTavish Travel RAIL JOURNEYS WITH G ADVENTURES G Adventures has announced the addition of several new rail journeys to its lineup of Classic tours for 2016/17.
