Annual gymnastics Open House at Montclair The White Oakettes celebrated Gymnastics Awareness Week, which concludes Sunday, with a week-long series of events. The highlight was Tuesday night's open house where these photos were taken by the Oakville Beaver photographer. But also on tap throughout the week at the club were spe cial events for its members such as `bring-a-friend day' and a mini-Olympics day. Halton Invictas registration on tap this week The Halton Invictas Football Club will be holding registrations at the B urlington M all, Fairview and Guelph Line on Feb. 21 & 22 (Thurs/Fri), 10 a .m .-10 p.m and Saturday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m.-5pm. for ju nior var sity (13-16 yrs. old), varsity (17-19 yrs. old) and senior varsity (22 & under). Please bring required docum entation. The Invictas play in the 44 team O ntario Varsity Football League. This season the Ham ilton Tiger Cats, Toronto Argos and the OVFL are proud to announce the Labour Day 5050 Scholarship Fund with all proceeds going towards player scholarships to OUA universities. The OVFL has also contracted Canada Coach to pro vide all the transportation for its members. This year the all stars from the east/w est all-star game will also be eligible to play for Team O ntario at the Canada Cup in Ottaw a on July 1. Oakville gymnasts in 2nd qualifier The Oakville Gymnastics Centre m en's artistic provincial team compet ed at the second provincial qualifier at the Burlington B.G.'s Gym Club over the Feb. 2/3 weekend. The boys gave their best effort with the assistance of their coach, Greg Jackson. All of these young men are experiencing provincial gymnastics for the first time this year. Chris Wickens, 12, who finished first overall, will soon be off to the Ontario Winter Games in Guelph in March. He was chosen to the team based on his results from the first men's Provincial Cup. W ickens and Brianne Long, 9, will be competing again at the third quali fier in March but due to their excellent results have already won a berth to their respective provincial champi onships -- Long in Brantford in May and Wickens in Woodstock in April.
