Their actual anniversary was July 3. Up until last September, the 97-year-old and 96-year-old, respectively, lived in a house on Spruce Street, built by Lloyd's parents. Lloyd was born and raised in Oakville and served as an airplane mechanic during the Second World War. He first noticed Elizabeth when she passed by a gas station in downtown Oakville and met her later at a dance hall in Victoria Park, now Wallace Park, on Reynolds Street. Elizabeth came to Oakville one summer in her teens to babysit for a family with four boys and decided to stay. The couple married on Elizabeth's family farm near Milverton, Ont. Together, they raised three boys -- Gary, Wayne and Ralph -- and have four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lloyd was an assistant manager at a Loblaw's grocery store until 1982 while Elizabeth later ran a small catering business that served local doctors, military and business executives.
