John Trutnau said he was surprised last month when he checked his messages and heard an automated voice telling him a warrant had been issued for his arrest. The caller claimed to be with the CRA and said they had made repeated attempts to contact him regarding a glaring discrepancy with his taxes. "They said the RCMP or the police are basically on their way and the only way to circumvent this is to call the 1-800 number they give you," said Trutnau. Police say if the victim calls that number, they are pressured into immediately paying money to the scam artist. While Trutnau did not fall for the trick, he is concerned about seniors and others who might be conned and so, he reported the incident to the Government of Canada's Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. see Don't on p.7 Four-year-old Quinn Quarrington gets her face painted at the third annual Oakville Children's Festival held last Sunday (July 10). The event sees the lakeside Coronation Park turn into an arts and cultural playground for the young and the young-at-heart. This year's features included Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb as headliner, as well as several other performers, shows, dance and music lessons, a scavenger hunt and hands-on building and art activities, to name a few.
