On behalf of the women and men of the Halton Regional Police Association (HRPA), I would like to thank the people of our community for the support that they continue to provide to our members. Over the past two weeks, we have seen our colleagues, in both Dallas, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, tragically executed while attempting to fulfill their obligation to Thanks for the support: Halton police association protect the good people of those communities. Locally, we have witnessed an outpouring of support from the citizens of Halton, to show they respect and admire the work the members of this police service perform on a daily basis. At both our district police stations in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills, and equally at the office of the HRPA, we have received phone calls, emails and letters from people who are appalled at the recent events in Texas and Louisiana. The type of symbiotic relationship that exists between the police and community in Halton is unique, and greatly valued by our members. I speak for every member of our association Letters to the Editor MP to host forum Aug. 22 7 | Friday, July 22, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com when I say we will continue to perform our sworn duty to maintain law and order in our communities in an impartial and unbiased way, without discrimination of race, religion, culture, gender or economic standing. Association | photo by Graham Paine Oakville Beaver Long-time resident frustrated by rules he says make town less `livable' We are all aware boulders, reflectors, stakes, etc., are not permitted on Town property. However, with the infill building boom rampant in existing Oakville, it is unfortunate the Town of Oakville does not have more stringent bylaws to protect its boulevards from destruction by those who would illuse them. Ultimately, it is homeowners who are stuck with the upkeep of dilapidated boulevards, which results in various emergency prevention treatments. What is most disconcerting to me is our `livable' town, after so many years vying for this status, then sends out notices stating, `You are in violation of Town property and have two weeks to remove the rocks or we shall remove the rocks at your expense." Touché... and don't expect local political support. It took almost 25 years for our Town fathers to realize what is happening. I had rocks on my property for eight years until someone reported it as a hazard, giving bureaucrats a reason to act. Their counter-offer was to provide a 16-inch gravel strip next to the paving and some biannual spraying to keep down the weeds. We are now back to a 25-year-old dilemma. I have lived in Oakville and maintained property for some 56 years. Goodbye livable Oakville. Keep it in mind in the next election.
