These singers and songwriters gather at The Other Side - the back room bar of O akville's The Corner Pocket at 256 Church St., for the M onday N ight Ja m , which gets underway about 10:30 p.m. and con tinues through to about 2 a.m. Doors open at about 9:30 p.m. Musicians are welcome to bring their own instruments or play one of the host's guitars. (Performers and patrons must be of legal drinking age.) There is no cover charge. "It's nice to do something differ ent, something special on a Monday night," says John Blasko, manager of The Other Side. "The musicians have a great time and the crowds are really supportive." Neil MacNaughton, local singer/ songwriter/guitarist and host of the M onday Night Jam , says that the evening offers would-be performers an opportunity to entertain in front of an audience. "We try to keep it fun and low key," he explains. "We get folks with a wide range o f comfort levels. Some want to perform on their own, while others prefer the support of a group setting. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and hopefully pro duce some great music at the same time." MacNaughton has performed in Oakville and Toronto as a solo musi cian and with The Bus and Merbecke bands. However, the finished tw o-foot brown cow will be on display in the TD Centre until Easter when it will probably be put up for auction, says Imran Jivraj, tenant relations for Cadillac-Fairview. "He (Hudak) is sculpting it from the cows outside," says Jivraj, explaining that his company selected Easter Seals as the charity it would support this year. "We wanted to make it fun. So, we decided to have choco late cows instead of bunnies." So, cows it is. And the large sculpt ed cow that Hudak started chiseling on Monday began with dozens of "lit tle thin chocolate wafers. I melted them in my kiln," says the wellknown sculptor, explaining how the w afers ultim ately becam e a large block. "There will be a 30-inch base that I will mount it on." As for the chocolate chips that were falling on a plastic sheet by his feet - they were re-melted for the cow 's head and rump, he adds. This is Hudak's first experience sculpting in chocolate, but he consid ers it an easy medium to work with. "It's a lot easier than working in plas ter; and plaster is the medium I teach for subtractive sculpting," he says. "I have come up with all sorts o f ideas now that I will do in chocolate." Any money made from the auction of the large chocolate cow will also go to the Easter Seals. The smaller cows, which are for sale along with choco late lollipops, lie on a chocolate base which reads "Visit Me at Toronto Dominion Centre." The lollipops are $2 and are wrapped in paper that says Celebrate the Spirit of the Moo.
