C8 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, April 26, 2000 B e s t W h e e l s O a k v i l l e Hyundai prepares to enter luxury sedan market Hyundai Auto Canada will start selling a new, large luxury passenger car, called the XG Grandeur in Korea, here in the fourth quarter of this year. Known as the XG Grandeur in Korea, a Canadian name has not yet been announced not has a price. To be sold with a full range of luxury features as standard equip ment, price is expected to be in the low to mid $30,000 range. The Hyundai XG, a four-door, five-passenger sedan, will com pete in the near luxury sedan seg ment. It will come with a stan dard 3.0-liter V-6 engine and five-speed automatic transmis sion and is front-wheel drive. "Were very excited to be expanding our model lineup with this outstanding vehicle," said H yundai XG Hyundai Auto Canada vice-president Steve Kelleher. "It provides the next step up for our Sonata owners who love their Hyundai but are looking for-a car with more room and luxury features." Standard features are fourwheel disc brakes with ABS, air conditioning, cruise control, key less entry, projector beam head lights, 15-inch alloy wheels with Michelin "V" rated tires, leather seating, trip computer and front compartment front and side air bags. The standard V-6 3.0litre engine is a double overhead cam design and develops 192 hp and 178 lb/ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mounted transversely and has a variable intake system and anti-vibration balance shaft. Overall length is 4865 mm, overall width 1825 mm and over all height 1420 mm. The wheel base is 2750 mm. The XG comes standard with a fully automatic five-speed transmission. This H-matic transmission allows manual gear selection, allowing the driver to manually shift up or down the transmission range. The trans mission is fully adaptive, adjust ing to the driving style of the dri ver. Other comfort features include AM/FM/CD stereo sys tem with six speakers, trip com puter, power door locks and exte rior mirrors with heated mirror elements and power driver and passenger seats among other fea tures. "We want to offer an extreme ly well equipped vehicle that offers everything a driver would want at a price that represents an outstanding value," said Kelleher. "As we expand our model line, our goal is to introduce new vehi cles that advance the Hyundai brand and image in the minds of car buyers. We believe the XG does exactly that."
