Supported Training and Rehabilitation in Diverse Environments or STRIDE, has been operating in Halton for the past 17 years. The basic concept of the program is that work is an integral part of the over all rehabilitation process for partici pants. STRID E'S services to businesses include a no-fee placement service, whereby it supplies pre-screened, expe rienced candidates for both permanent and temporary positions. Temporary job placements provide assistance to companies during peak periods, when there is insufficient staff to meet their demands. With permanent placements, STRIDE maintains contact with both employer and employees after hiring. Through contracts, STRIDE offers completion of work, such as collating, packaging, assembly, shrink-wrapping and correctional work, at hits Rehabilitation sites in Halton. This sup ports the positions taken by the majori ties o f O akville and Burlington Councils and the wishes of East Flamborough residents. "We understand the decision has been delayed by the minister in order to have time for more careful review on this very important issue," said O akville Cham ber president Bob Griesbach. "The Flamborough Chamber of Commerce also endorsed this solution as being the best for its members and certainly the minister should listen to the views expressed by those people who will be most impact ed by any decision being made by the province."
