The store was open again Monday night after the closure, which allowed Oakville Fire and Oakville Hydro to investigate reports of smoke. Mark Burnhardt, a communication specialist with Metro Ontario Inc., said the store was closed for about eight hours and was reopened just after 10 p.m. after receiving clearance from the Halton Region Health Department. It is now open and operational -- and serving customers, he said. Fire crews arrived at the mall early afternoon Monday, with Hydro crews arriving shortly after, around 1:30 p.m. The grocery store was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Oakville Hydro's Chief Operating Officer Mike Brown said there was a fault on the underground cable serving the mall, and specifically the Metro. "The crew was able to isolate the fault and restore full service as of 5:55 p.m.," he said. The Oakville Fire Department was called to the mall at Third Line and Rebecca Street after receiving reports of smoke in the Metro store. Initially, Fire Chief Brian Durdin said while nothing was confirmed, the smoke could be coming from a malfunctioning transformer.
