Impaired charge related to boat crash near Coronation Park by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 3 | Friday, August 12, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com A 65-year-old Oakville man is facing impaired driving charges after a fishing boat crashed into the rocks near the shoreline of Coronation Park Monday (Aug. 8) night. Halton police and other emergency services were called to the scene at about 10 p.m., after a witness reported the strange site. Staff Sgt. Craig Platt said the 34-foot vessel had become stuck on rocks about 30 feet from shore. "The individual was observed trying to operate the vessel even though it was stuck," said Platt. As the investigation progressed the boat operator was taken to the Oakville police station where he was allegedly found to have nearly double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The man was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation of a vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his system. Police are not releasing the man's name at this time. No one was injured during this incident. Police are reminding residents that offences that would land them in trouble with police on the roads will get them in just as much trouble when they get behind the wheel of a boat.
