With seven choirs ranging from children around the age of four up to the university level, there's a group for everyone. With a mixture of co-ed and gendered choirs, the groups create a welcoming environment for singers of varying experience and abilities. "We believe that through joining the choir students will develop their skills," said Sarah Morrison, artistic director for the Oakville Children's Choir. "There is vocal coaching, vocal training, music theory, and it's really a chance for students to develop their voices, and we offer everyone the chance to sing regardless of experience and skill set." Auditions to join one of the choirs will be held toward the end of August and into September, but do not fret. The audition is just a `get to know you' process, where the artistic staff and the student and family are able to meet, talk about the choir, and figure out where his or her voice will be best suited. Once part of a choir, the commitment level starts at once a week with some students opting to join smaller, more com- Members of the Oakville Children's Choir pose with Puddles the mascot for the University of Oregan during their trip to showcase their talents at the Pacific International Choral Festival in Oregon. According to Morrison, by having the choirs meet once a week, it really allows for excellent vocal development as well as allowing young people to be involved in a variety of extra-circulars outside of music making. For students interested in competing, the Oakville Children's Choir has performed and competed both locally, and on an international level.
