"The concept of the store has been growing in popularity, which is fantastic," said Jill McChesney, co-owner of Plato's Closet in Oakville. " It's really the only way that you can take mid to even low range brands and turn around to sell them for cash. In the past your options have mainly been to donate items you didn't want or need, or to give them to a friend." Plato's, owned and operated by McChesney and her sister Melody Taylor, operates differently from a consignment store, in that clients who are looking to sell items do not place them on consignment to wait for them to sell. Staff members assess each item that is brought in to ensure that it is in good shape, and clients are paid for the items that can be re-sold. "People who are selling items that no longer work for them are able to be paid up front without waiting for the item to sell," said McChesney. They can also turn around and purchase something that is more suited to them, that is still new, very much in style, and pay 50 to 70 per cent less than the original ticket price. It's a sell, buy, and repeat process that most people really love." "The store has the appearance of a mainstream retail store, and doesn't leave you feeling like you're looking through someone else's closet," said McChesney, "It's bright, colour coded, and is organized by section, category and style. For those who are looking to sell items, McChesney explains that clothes need to have been washed, not laden with odours or animal hair, and need to be in good, wearable condition. Plato's does not accept children and youth size clothing as the focus is on teen and young adult clothing, with sizes ranging from 0 up to 3X. Located at 355 Iroquois Shore Road unit 2B, Plato's is open seven days a Staff at Plato's Closet Oakville showcase a few of the items available for purchase. Nikki Wesley, Metroland Media Group week.
