McDONALD, Malcolm (Mac) Passed away peacefully at home in Oakville after a short illness on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 with his wife and his son by his side at age 96. Mac, beloved husband of Brenda. Predeceased by his first wife Marie (Lang). Loving father of John and his wife Holly of Haliburton and the late Bonnie Aalbers. Proud grandpa of Sandra Ansley (Kevin), Matthew McDonald (Angela), Laura McDonald, Lisa McDonald and Michelle McDonald and great-grandpa of Colton and Braylen Ansley and Amelia McDonald. Dear brother of Joy McDonald Dunn and her husband Dennis and uncle of Debbie Pitblado and Kelly Pys and their families. Born in Windsor Mills, Quebec on May 1, 1920 and moved to Oakville in 1941. Mac proudly served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War. He was the owner of McDonald Welding, Oakville and Edgewater Court Resort, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. Mac was very involved with the Optimist Club of Oakville for 60 years and held several positions including District Governor of the Ontario District and International Vice President of Optimist International. Passionate supporter of the Halton Region Police Children's Safety Village. Through his dedication and hard work, Mac was the 2015 Recipient of the Town of Oakville Community Spirit Award (Senior Category). He was also a long-time trail maintenance volunteer for the Bruce Trail Association and twice completed the trail end-to-end. He was also an amateur genealogist, member of the Guild of One-Name Studies, responsible for researching the Farquhar name all around the world. Louise is survived by her loving husband Kent Babcock (of 39 years), cherished mother to her daughter Emily Chikoski (Luke) and son Timothy Babcock (Karen), her adoring grandchildren Paige, Ella and Reid. She will be sorely missed by her three cocker spaniels Oliver, Liam and Quinn. He is survived by Maxine, his loving wife of 64 years, by his children Michael (Nancy), Stephanie St Pierre (Roger) and Cindy and by his grandchildren Caitlin and Madeline Weedle, Patrick and Nicholas St Pierre and Jacqueline Prior. Paddy is pre-deceased by his brother Michael (Maire) of Clane, Ireland. Born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, Paddy came to Canada in 1949. He had a wonderful career as an Officer with the Canadian Army for 20 years. Paddy served with the Canadian Guards in Korea, with NATO in West Germany and with the United Nations as a Military Observer on the India - Pakistan border. On his retirement from the Military he joined the Workers Compensation Board, retiring in 1989. As a mature student, Paddy studied part-time and graduated in 1982 from McMaster University majoring in History and English literature. His interest in writing led to a number of published articles in military and historical magazines in Canada, Australia and Ireland. Paddy always had a zest for life. He was a lifetime athlete and had a love for the outdoors. He jogged, hiked, swam, played golf and rode horses into his senior years. He enjoyed travel and was always open to adventure and new experiences. Paddy will always be remembered for his warm smile, his kind and friendly manner and his positive attitude. We would like to thank the staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. If desired, a contribution in memory of Paddy may be made to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Red Cross.
