www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 8, 2016 | 44 Sheridan students team up with Chinese iMusicals Five Sheridan College students collaborated with students from the Chinese iMusicals school to put on the production of Part of Your World: an evening of song, dance and storytelling. Georgia Bennett, Dave Comeau, Joel Cumber, Alex Panneton, and Kelsey Verzotti conceived and organized the show, which took stage July 23 at Macdonald-Heaslip Hall, located at Sheridan College's Trafalgar Road Campus. Part of Your World told the story of a group of children who discover theatre after they came across boxes of old props, set pieces and costumes from the shows of yesteryear in an old storage room. It featured numbers from some of the most beloved musicals, including Beauty and the Beast, Gypsy, Shrek the Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Billy Elliot, On the Town and more. The five, fourth-year Sheridan College students performed alongside 21 students, who range in age from seven to fourteen, from the iMusicals school. Bennett, Comeau, Cumber, Panneton and Verzotti had established a relationship with iMusicals after visiting Shanghai, China last year to experience the Chinese musical theatre scene and training programs first hand. The students of iMusicals were invited to Oakville for a week-long intensive rehearsal that culminated in a final showcase. It will be a challenge to juggle the two commitments, but Hinchcliffe practiced a few days last week and will be practicing at the start of this week before his test drive in Sonoma. "The second show will be more difficult than the first if we get through there," he admitted. "We might have to do a little extra work in the days leading up to show one to already start preparing for week two." The dancing competition pairs judges' votes with those of viewers to decide who advances each week. Season 23 debuts on ABC at 8 p.m. on Sept. 12 and concludes Nov. 22 with presentation of the cherished Mirror Ball Trophy to the winner.
