The council vote follows a June 21 decision in which a panel representing governors from eight Great Lakes states voted unanimously to allow Waukesha to draw roughly 30 million litres a day from Lake Michigan. The small Wisconsin city of around 72,000 people brought forward the proposal because its own groundwater wells are contaminated with radium. Town council and other Great Lakes stakeholders argue the decision is contrary to the 2005 Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Sustainable Water Resources Agreement and the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact, which ban new water diversions from the basin except in communities located in counties straddling the water division line between the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin and other basins. Waukesha argued it was one of these communities straddling that basin line, but see Halton on p.5 SAUNDERS, SAXTON & WINTER ~ A Legacy of Excellence ~ Wendy Saunders Kim Saxton Ruth Anne Winter Sales Representative Sales Representative Broker 136 Church Street, Suite 1A - Oakville, ON | 905.845.1223 sswteam.ca | sswteam @ johnstonanddaniel.com 4141 Derry Road - $2,299,000 3500 Lakeshore Rd W, West Suite 812 ~ $1,149,000
