Sheridan grant for innovation in advanced manufacturing and design Sheridan College received a grant of more than $763,000 from the federal government recently as part of program aimed at supporting innovative research within the region. The funding, which was announced by Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour MaryAnn Mihychuk, will go towards Sheridan's Advanced Multimaterial Additive Manufacturing: Product and Process program. The program deals with commercial 3D production and assists companies interested in transforming ideas into prototypes. "Sheridan's Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) has established itself as a leader in additive manufacturing," said Jeff Zabudsky, President and Vice Chancellor, Sheridan College. "The new equipment made possible by this grant will enable CAMDT's research and industry partnerships, in concert with the School of Engineering Sciences, to explore new applications for additive manufacturing, with a focus on biomedical devices and aerospace technology." The funding is made available through the federal government's Canada Foundation for Innovation's (CFI) College Industry Innovation Fund, intended to help colleges work with Canadian businesses to innovate and thrive, and the Infrastructure Operating Fund, which helps institutions with the operating and maintenance costs associated with the new infrastructure. "This support will promote industry-college collaboration, spur innovation and encourage the growth of Canadian businesses," said John Oliver, Oakville MP . "This funding will help ensure that Sheridan College will continue to be competitive in today's market. " Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff also weighed in on the funding announcement.
