Two Oakville lawyers have been named among the top 10 planning and development lawyers in the GTA. "This is a significant achievement for us as we were up against the big downtown law firms that practice in the .905 area. Perhaps it is also a good reflection on two Oakville business people," said Townsend Renaud. For 21 years Townsend Renaud has practiced law with a focus on planning for and management of growth in existing and new communities. She has played a part in numerous projects, ranging from small to large, and including commercial, institu tional, industrial and residen tial development with expert ise ranging from development charges to land use issues. Townsend Renaud has worked throughout southern and eastern Ontario in urban and rural communities, she has represented developers; local, provincial and federal government bodies; and com munity groups. For Townsend Renaud, the win for Daniels Oakville Corporation on the former Sharkey's property was deemed "a big win" by the publication in addition to a win on behalf of RRL Burloak to allow a power retail centre at South Service Road and Burloak Drive. For Smith, the ranking in tenth spot marked his first time on the list. He was named because of the mix of variance appeals and developer repre sentation in Oakville cases. Smith represented Trinison Management Corp. on appeals by developers against an interim control by-law restricting devel opment in north Oakville and appeals by developers to approve the developer-initiated develop ment plan for north Oakville east of Sixteen-Mile Creek. Many firms listed in the top 10 ranking are involved in cases regarding development in north Oakville. The ranking marks the sev enth annual year-end tradition for the publication and is based on work in the legal field, primarily before the Ontario Municipal Board (0MB).
