26 - The O akville Beaver W ee ke nd , Saturday January 7, 2006 Doctor among GTA's first registered physicians in Vascular Interpretation Oakville resident, Dr. Khurram Hafeez, who has been working at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga since 2002 in vascular medicine, was one of the 150 physicians selected worldwide by The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) to write the Physicians, Vascular Interpretation (PVI) examination. ARDMS is offering this new credential exclusively to physi cians who practice vascular ultra sound/technology and medicine. Hafeez was part of the pilot exam inations conducted from June to September 2005 and has recently been informed that he has suc cessfully passed the PVI examina tion making him one of the first Registered Physicians in Vascular Interpretation in the GTA and pos sibly Ontario. Hafeez, who came to Canada in 1993 as a foreign medical gradu ate, has, over the years, struggled tremendously to achieve his goals and to be a registered physician in North America. Recently he has opened his own company Halton Diagnostic Health Services to pri vately offer his services in the field of Vascular medicine and interpre tation worldwide. With the advances in medicine, equipment and technology, reports can be sent world wide for medical interpretation. The PVI Examination has been designed to test the knowledge and skills that physicians com monly use when working as part of a team in' a vascular laboratory setting. Therefore, the emphasis is on relevant anatomy, physiology, instrumentation and physical principles as these apply to the interpretation of vascular labora tory tests. As the vascular laboratory con tinues to grow, and the number of specialties involved in this field continues to expand, the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) credential earned by passing the PVI exami nation - offers a uniform standard for validating expertise in the interpretation of vascular tests. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), incorporated in 1975, is an independent, nonprofit organi zation that administers examina tions and awards credentials in the areas of diagnostic medical sonog raphy, diagnostic cardiac sonogra phy, and vascular technology. All ARDMS credential programs are accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). ARDMS has more than 47,000 certified indi viduals in the U.S., Canada and throughout the world.
