"I always wanted to do a ribbon dance." The show drew plenty of applause from the crowd in the Oaklands' gym, and had spectators approaching Chow afterwards to thank her. "I'm so blessed and so lucky, because I'm doing something I love," said the Taiwan native, who moved to New York at 18 to attend Juilliard. Not only did the performance celebrate the start of the new year for the dancing veteran, it also marked her 20th anniver sary as a teacher. . "I've come to the stage in my life where ` teaching is my passion," she said. "I just love to bring the world of dance to all the kids and try to inspire them. It opens the door to their creativity and imagination." Chow, who moved to Oakville eight years ago, started the dance club at Joshua Creek last December. It's now 30 members strong. "They're so excited about it and when they accomplish something, they have that sparkle in their, eye," she said, smil ing. Thanks to your hard work, the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) again recognized Halton as being one of the leading battery recycling communities in Canada. In 2005, Halton residents recycled 5,622 kg of rechargeable batteries helping to protect our environment and extending the lifespan of our landfill. Congratulations to residents for diverting almost 42 per cent of household waste away from our landfill - one of the highest diversion rates in the GTA. With your help, we can recycle even more batteries this year. Bring your batteries to the Halton Waste Management Site, located at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton or visit www.halton.ca to find out more about our recycling programs. Learn about the benefits of practicing good forestry and receive information on how you can maximize the value of your woodlands! The Tree By-law, finalized after nearly two years of development and extensive consultation with the community, applies to trees located in Greenlands or woodlands larger than 0.5 hectares and is primarily designed to prevent unauthorized dear cutting in Halton Region. Residents can pick up a copy of By-law 121-05 on Halton's website or at the Halton Citizen's Reference Library at the Regional Administration Building at 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville or contact Halton Region for more information. -- Chairman Joyce Savoline 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville, Ontario L6M 3L1 · Tel: 905-825-6000 · Toll Free: 1-866-4HALTON · TTY: 905-827-9833 * www.
