The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 3, 2006 - 21* CFO invites grant proposals his month The Community Foundation of Oakville (CFO) announces its annual call for pro posals for granting agencies. In 2006 we look forward to hearing from a number of organizations with new projects that we may help fund. The CFO would like to recognize one of our past grantees, Cloth in g Works, a charitable service that provides complimentary outfits and accessories to women who need assistance to enter the job force. How does this service work? Community agencies such as Halton Women's Centre and Halton Social Services refer women to Clothing Works. "This is such a feel good charity, says Clothing Works Chair Julia Prange. "Women who come are invited to look through our racks of clothes and acces sories. Our volunteers have fun helping them choose outfits to try on. They usu ally leave with a complete outfit and sev eral coordinating pieces - all for free. It is truly amazing to see the transformation in both appearance and confidence." Since its official opening in 2000, Clothing Works has depended on the generosity of our community for dona tions of new and barely-used outfits and accessories, as well as money. Local retailer Barbette acts as the drop-off centre, while Necessities Nail and Body Care has provided retail space. Clothing Works' latest challenge for our town is the provision of a larger'space, 600 square feet or more near a bus route. Clothing Works could not function without its volunteers who sort through the donated items, in addition to helping clients select ensembles. The CFO was pleased to provide $1,000 in 2002 for this volunteer organization and another $1,000 in 2004. To learn more about Clothing Works call Prange at 905-815-9411. Meanwhile, if your organization has a special project in 2006 for which you would like to apply for a grant from the CFO contact Leisha Sladden-Atkinson at Leisha@thecfo.org or call her at 905845-5489. The deadline for proposals is March 15. The CFO connects good people with good causes in Oakville, providing over $1 million annually in funding to meet community needs. - Submitted by Kate Jones, volunteer, CFO Marketing Committee BAPTIST U N IT E D PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE CHAPEL T 2489 Lakeshore Rd.W. 905-827-1643 Corner of Bronte & Lakeshore Rd.
