The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 8, 2006 - 5 911 call ends with pot bust Officers responding to calldiscover marijuanaplants A local man is charged with production of a controlled sub stance and possession of a con trolled substance for the pur pose of trafficking in connec tion with a small marijuana grow discovered at 4092 Fourth Line on Saturday. Charged is 47-year-old Mark Matthew Priestley, who was arrested after police officers responded to a 911 call received from the residence on Fourth Line. The call received was provid ing an open phone line with no conversation, and upon arrival to the residence, police investi gated the interior to ensure there was no emergency. Officers entered and discov ered a number of marijuana plants in plain view throughout the residence. Priestley was alone in the residence and was arrested. The residence was frozen for further investigation. Police returned to the resi dence in the early hours on Sunday. Members of the Halton Regional Police Drug/Mortality Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Rescue Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Search Warrant at the residence. The officer said that while the sexual offences varied in nature, there was one venue in Oakville that was common with all three vic tims. The offences, however, spanned numerous locales including Oakville, Mississauga, Edmonton and Quebec. "Basically he posed as a youth counsellor who availed himself to troubled youths. The three victims were all known to him ," said Crowe. It is believed the suspect fled the country in 1996 when he learned of police involvement and that's when an arrest warrant was issued. The investigation was initiated by the Halton police and it was Halton police who issued the warrant for the suspect's arrest. According to Crowe it was "good police work" by Det. Constable Chantal Verrier, who was doing some work on the file and her recent investigation that led police to believe ttie sus pect was now living in B.C. That's when the RCMP were contacted, again by Halton police, to carry out the arrest warrant.
